Text 2: “Learn English, Participate in Politics, and Give Back” – By Arnold SchwarzeneggerIn this text Arnold Schwarzenegger tells us about how he immigrated from Austria to America in the hope of living out his own American dream and becoming successful. He says that three things are very important, if you want to achieve the American dream; learn English, participate in politics and give back. It’s important to know the language and to blend in to the culture, but at the same time of course also remembering your own culture and heritage. Arnold took English lessons himself to be better at participating in the society. Secondly he wants the Americans to take their right to vote more seriously. They just take it for granted, and Arnold wants them to consider that in some countries people don’t even have that right. Therefore it is also important to support and participate in politics and the democracy in order to keep it strong. Arnold doesn’t want the Americans to take their freedom for granted. In the past many Americans have fought for this freedom, and the citizens of today need to respect it more. His third advice is to give something back to the society, like volunteer work for example. It’s important to help, where help is needed. Over all Arnold Schwarzenegger has a very positive attitude towards the American dream. He says that you are able to reach almost any goal you set yourself and be successful with hard work and determination. .
