There will always be bullying at schools. Children can be very mean and cruel to each other, and the child, who is different or doesn’t fit in like the rest, will be teased, bullied or laughed at. In many cases children doesn’t prevent the bullying because they are frightened to be the victim themselves. They are trying to be accepted, just like Elizabeth in “Celia Behind me”.

Elizabeth is the narrator in the story. Celia is a girl with very thick glasses, large smooth cheeks and a rare name. They tease her because she is a chubby, diabetic child. Elizabeth is also a little chubby and wears glasses, but just not as ugly as Celia’s. She knows that if it weren’t for Celia, she would be the next in line. To avoid that, she bullies Celia with the other classmates. Her mother keeps telling her to be nicer to Celia.

“You just be nice to her, she won’t live forever” (l. 5)

Celia is diabetic and because of that she probably wont live forever. Elizabeth Knows that bullying Celia is a bad thing. “I’m nicer to her then anybody else”(l. 34). She fells guilt and tries to convince herself, that she’s not as bad like everybody else.
