The story 'Celia Behind me' relates to pressure, to fit in and be accepted. The main character, Elizabeth, struggles with her own insecurity and position within the group of kids. The result of her insecurity is frustration she expresses on Celia. Elizabeth’s position was unstable. She makes herself believe that she is a part of the group. They go home together and they pick on Celia together and hat makes Celia believe, that she belongs to the group. Celia was sucking her finger in kindergarten, and thats how she got the name Sucky. Elizabeth was stucked with Celia's fingersucking until 3 grade and the fear of being teased, empowed Elizabeth to pick on Celia with the rest of the kids. Elizabeth’s hate comes from the fact that Celia represents much of what Elizabeth doesn't like about herself.''I was kind of chunky and wore glasses too'' Elizabeth said, when she struggles with her fear of becoming the next Celia. "For I knew, deep in my wretched heart, that were it not for Celia I was next in line for humiliation'' The problem is that after one incident Elizabeth realizes that her place in the group is not secure, and right after Elizabeth is on the same spot as Celia was, and Elizabeth's worst dream becomes true. She could be picked in again. Elizabeth is a nice example of 'what goes around comes back around'. Elizabeth does not like Celia, because she is an efflection of herself, and the incident got Elizabeth to realize, that Elizabeth were not anymore worth to the group than Celia was.
