There is no doubt that we find it easy to see racism when we see other exercise it, but on the contrary very difficult to look inward and confront our own prejudices. Our prejudices are developing into a serious racism that has got us all together and we do not even realize it.
The fact that racism is still alive in the real world is certainly true. Right-wing groups as: “Stop the Islamization of Denmark” is actually quite popular, and it is generally acceptable to express attitudes that express dislike for religious and ethnic minorities.
Mogens Glistrup, founder of the progress party, is an excellent example of a so-called immigrant hostile person or racist. He said that: “You cannot just import Muslims over and over again, they are only here to destroy and kill Danes” and: “Islam Lobbyists and other Western Europeans take solace in the fact that many Muslims in our country are probably not dangerous fundamentalists. But none of us know who it will be, when jihad is on its way.”
When people express themselves racist, it happens on the basis of ignorance, but I do not believe that Mr. Glistrup was a particularly ignorant person who, after all, has studied at the University of Copenhagen.
