Today in our globalized world there exist racism and nearly everyone having some prejudices that however are not something new after the terror attack on World Trade Centers in 2001. These phenomenons have been here for centuries, which is also one of the main themes in the prologue Queenie. In Queenie we follow the main character which is called Queenie, she is a young girl on presumably six or seven years, the reason you could believe that’s her age is because of her hairstyle is pigtails which is most common for younger girls under the age of ten, also the fact that she needs a babysitter all the time and her constantly worrying mother. The quotation beneath is an example of her mother worrying but also one of the prejudice in this short story. The quotation tells us that her mother doesn´t welcome other cultures and shows us the negative attitude toward others that she got, in the quote you can see it because she considers them ill just because of their red dot in their head, even though she doesn’t understand what it is she just think that it might be something bad.
“And all these women had red dots in the middle of their forehead. “No one could tell me what the dots were for. “Go and ask one of them,” Emily
