Kashmir was formed in Copenhagen ten years ago and so far Kashmir has been the story of a band never looking back, always taking on new challenges and never compromising. They have until now released 4 albums, and plenty of singles. They are planning on releasing their fifth album this year, and will probably release the record on the 05.05.05, because the last album was released on the 03.03.03. The first album was Travelogue, and there are many different opinions about this album and certainly there are different opinions about all of their albums. The first album would usually be the album which made the style for a band. But travelogue was only a taste of how big the spectrum was for Kashmir. 2 years later they released the album Credential. This album was much more experimentally than Travelogue. But it was up in the time. One of the world’s most mentioned bands ever had just released what reviewers called “the best album ever”, which was released by Radiohead; they called their album “OK computer”. Therefore Credential was experimenting with the same style as Radiohead. Many would say that it’s a great album, but after my opinion they are experimenting a bit too much. “The good life” came in 1999, and is the best album they ever have made. It contains everything that a good classic rock album should have. The quiet songs with a deep political-correct-opinion, and the more freaking-out-songs. The album also contains the song “lampshade” which we will return to later. The next and newest album is named “Zitilites”. On “Zitilites” they mainly found their own style. “Zitilites” was a kind of continuation of “the good life”. Generally they kept the style and kept the high level of quality as we had experienced on “The Good life”. Kashmir’ next releases are expected to be the best they verve made. As we pointed earlier in this presentation will the next album possible be released on the date of 05.05.05? Not everything has been perfect for Kashmir. Between the good life and Zitilites Kashmir had weighting cries. The band was in this period close to break up. They met each other every day in the studios, to try to be inspiriting to Wright new songs. But nothing seemed to help. On this tome they had a video camera which followed them everywhere. These recordings were later mixed, and it became a documentary about how Kashmir got out of the cries. The film is called “rocket Brothers” named after the first single on Zitilites. We have analyzed a song from “the good life”. Number 3 at the cd. It’s called Lampshade. Hear it!-it’s worth it. The song is about child abuse the two first stanzas is mainly about the father, who gives the impression of being a good father. He looks like a good father who sits in his car and waves to the children, and has a fence round his house like he’s caring about his children. That’s what you think! But in the chorus there’s some sort of hint that tells us that there is something wrong and the father might seek some help with his problem. In the prolonged chorus we are some sort of told, that he is a sexual abusing father, who until this moment was presented or maybe were a good father/person. In the next stanza (3rd) we have some different opinions about what the texts means, which we will talk about in our presentation. The second chorus is even longer than the first, and says that his glow is fading, and the lampshade is a symbol for the secret, between the father and the children. The music changes from the first stanza in the b-part, and in one way he’s now telling in a more present time. In the two first stanzas in the b-part, he’s telling that he will share the secret to anybody that the lampshade is caring around. In the second last stanza the father wants to escape, but he is tight to his secrecy, and the son haves some sort of control over his father. In the last stanza he tells that he wants to kill his father, but instead he removes his lampshade, which means that he spreads the secret around.
