An endless changing horizon Personal essay about the movie “Into the wild”

“Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road.”- Alexander Supertramp May 1992

People must be so tired of seeing the same things every single day. Wake up in the same bed. In the same houses. Everything is the same and everybody is unhappy. We are all looking for the exactly same thing. But what is it? It´s the ultimate freedom, which concludes to happiness, but if we are lucky to find it, we are still too afraid to grab it and be happy. That´s what “Into the wild” is about; Ultimate freedom, happiness, the meaning of life and risking it all. You simple have to have an endless changing horizon, a different sun every day, so you can be free and find your happiness, which in this case is the road and being in the wild.

“Into the wild” is based on a true story, about a young man from a wealthy family that decided to walk alone into the wild. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given 24.000 dollars in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. This new life, gave him a new identity (Alexander Supertramp). On this travel he met a lot of different people and every one of them made a mark on this new identity and had an influence on his life. We saw how the society is and how it should be. He chooses to travel, because he first of all was unhappy about his current lifestyle and wanted to destroy the monster he meant he had inside him.
