Organ Donation: Opt-out, Handel og Offentlig Bevidsthed

“Everyone must be an organ donor unless they opt out says Chief Medical Officer”. Sir Liam Donaldson recommends moving to a system of presume consent, in an attempt to increase the number of organs for donation. Many countries are in lack of organs, and everyday somebody dies in Britain. A transplant could have saved him/her. A lot of organizations for example the British Medical Association think that a change from “opt-in” to “opt-out” is a very good idea. A lot of people think, that organ donation is a good idea, but not enough people register the donor list.

Sir Liam Donaldson says in the text, that the best way of getting a lot of people to be donors is to move to opt-out, where everyone is on the donor register, unless they choose to remove their names. The waiting list for those Patients, who needs an organ, is rising every year, and the proportions that get a transplant is falling.

Britain has one of the lowest organ donation rates in developed countries. Spain was in a similar situation, but managed to more than double its rates of donation since bringing in an opt-out system.Sir Liam Donaldson points out, that there of course would be safeguards to ensure that religious and faith groups, that did not wish to donate organs, could opt out easily.
