Besides, there was to much light and Old Ranger could see me take aim. I decided to wait for the gloom…
I scouted the area, once I was sure we would not be disturbed, I sat down beside Old Ranger, leaning against the tree trunk. The trunk was humid and warm so the liquid soaked though my pants. I sat on a bed of flowers and mushrooms. I held the rifle tight to my chest and started to ponder what father would think, when he would know I earned a dollar all by myself.
I looked up at the same tree as Old Ranger, he was in deeply focused on this one squirrel with a huge fuzzy tail. The Squirrel then went inside the tree, Old ranger snorted of disappoint-ment, he then proceeded to sniff the tall green grass. He tried to move but I had tied him so tightly so he couldn’t. Old Ranger laid down next to me and rested his head on my lab, then I started petting him slowly. I thought about Mr. Epperly’s children as I sat there, I still didn’t want to shoot the dog, but I didn’t want to disappoint either. It was dim and I wanted to get I over with, but I was tired and chose to do it after a short nap.
