Wishes we all can agree to. Especially Solomon Northup.

He lived as a free black man back in the 19th century. He had his family and friends. A comfortable house in New York. And a job. The perfect life, right?

But during the “Pre-Civil War, United States,” Solomon got abducted, sold and became a slave.

By a malevolent slave owner, he not only got to face horrifying hierarchy but also pure cruelty.

Solomon struggled for years, not only to stay alive but to retain his dignity.

When meeting a Canadian abolitionist, Solomon got this brilliant idea, asked the Canadian, if he would send a letter for him.

He knew that there would be a risk by asking about it.

But a thought in his head said; “Why not take the chance? Life couldn’t get worse, right?”

And could Solomon’s life get worse at this time?

Open wounds on his back, work day in and day out and worst of all no dignity.

He took the chance, asked the Canadian abolitionist. To Solomon’s pleasant surprise, he didn’t get rejected. The letter was sent. After about twelve years as a slave, he was pretty used to stay calm and be patient.
