1.0 - Abstract
This study investigates how bacteria grow, what growing demand bacteria’s have, and how we can describe their growth mathematically.
Furthermore, the project looks at how we can describe bacteria and microorganisms in a mathematical with “logistic growth”.
Logistic growth: y'=(b-ay)y
The study describes that bacteria grow exponentially, if there are enough resources, and the growing demand is met because when bacteria’s reproduce there are twice as many microorganisms, after every cell division, and twice as many cell divisions after each cell division.
Furthermore, the project describes how to define a mathematical function, describing how a population of bacteria’s growth. The differential equation for logistic growth is used to describe a set of observations on microorganisms development. The differential equation for logistic growth, is based on the equation for exponential growth, but with the added factor that limits growth over time.
The study concludes by making a mathematical model that fits a set of data. It ends with arguing about using bacteria to help solve environmental problems in the future, like the MycoFuelChem-project.
