Today, there are over 90,000 Amish people living in over twenty American states
They try to do as little as possible to do with the outside world, having no telephone wires, electrical wires and water or gas pipes.
They also try to avoid having unnecessary things such as curtains or pictures in their houses
They believe in having large families with an average of 8-10 children.
They don’t believe in Santa Claus and they don’t decorate Christmas trees, but they do exchange Christmas presents
The children are taught to be very obedient and they sit quietly
They mostly hold their weddings at home.

Funerals are also held in the home. The body stays in the home for three days, before being buried in an Amis cemetery.
