The Shining Mountain is a fairytale about a girl called Pangma-La, and her father, a famous mountaineer. Because Pangma-La father is famous, he has high expectations to his daughter. In school Pangma-La is teased because of her extraordinary name, but her father tells her to be proud of being named after a shining mountain. After training mountaineering skills for a long time Pangma-La and her father set out for the shining mountain. On the plane Pangma-La had a nightmare; she was a white swan flying atop of the mountains, but she couldn’t land on them, so her wings froze and she crashed. On the trailhead they pass a village where all the Sherpa men offer to carry their luggage for money of course. Pangma-Las father tells them they don’t need help. The men become angry and tell them that the mountain goddess will send wind and avalanches their way. Pangma-La and her father arrive at the mighty mountain and start climbing it. Just then an old Sherpa woman offers to carry Pangma-La backpack, but she refuses because she doesn’t want to disappoint her father. The next day the old woman offers Pangma-La help again, she accepts so they switch Pangma-Las heavy equipment in her backpack for swan down. The following day she switches her clothes with swan down, and the third day she trades her heavy heart for swan down. At sunset Pangma-La was gone, so Pangma-La father was scared. The old Sherpa women appeared, and told the scared father that Pangma-La had turned into swan. Then the mountain goddess appears and tells the father that she had only given him what he had wished to get Pangma-La to conquer that mountain she was named after. Pangma-La’s father started to cry and regret all the things he had put his daughter through. When the mountain goddess saw that, she turned Pangma-La back into a human again. Pangma-La’s father had learned his lesson and would never again be disappointed in his daughter.
