The story is about a young girl, called pangma-la, her father who is famous mountaineer, he has climbed many mountains. Her father are not home often, he was out in the wild and climbing mountains, but one day he got a baby daughter, he called her pangma-la like the big shining mountain, that he ones has climbed, so she can stand tall and proud. One day pangma-la was grown big, and she are ready to climb the big shining mountain with her father, but she need to train first, so she started immediately. Her training is going well, and now she is ready to climb the big shining mountain, with her father, so she can stand tall and make him proud. Now pangma-la and her father are on their way to the big shining mountain. They finally arrived to the mountain, so they began to climb the mountain, on the way up at the mountain, pangma-la meet an old woman. The woman asks pangma-la to carry her sack, but pangma-la refuse to carry the sack, and then she began to climbing again, and ignorer the old woman. Pangma-la is still climbing, then she sees the old woman again, the woman offer pangma-la to help her again, this time pangma-la accept to help her. The old woman reveals herself to Pangma-La three times in the story, the third time and last time. Pangma-La gives her heart to the old Sherpa woman, and Pangma-La disappears. The old woman is actually a witch, and she transforms pangma-la into a swan, as a lesson to her father so he could see that he was pressuring his daughter to much. The witch shows Pangma-La’s father how Pangma-La really feels and that all his high expectations towards Pangma-La are killing her. Pangma-La’s father sees what he has done to his own daughter, and tries to kill himself by throwing himself over the mountain edge. But just before he tries to make his suicide attempt, the mountain goddess throws a bolt of lightning in front of him. The hag who really is a mountain goddess sees that Pangma-La’s father has learned his lesson, and brings Pangma-La back to life.
