I think you can compare it to the animal, it chances color in different situations like Rita does. She is a Indian traditional girl with her parents, but when she is with her boyfriend she is as white as you can be, accept her skin color, and she is really fitted into the English society and culture.
What sort of arrangements has Rita and Mark made in order to not get found out on how their actual lifestyle is?
They live a life for themselves, in their own apartment. Her parents don’t know they are a couple. They keep it a secret from a lot of people.

I think it because she thinks it Is such a complicated situation, she don’t want to disappoint her parents. So she might think it is the easy solution, to marry a Indian guy.
