Chameleon is a short story written by Ranbir Sahota. The story is about a 24-year-old girl named Rita with religious parents from India. Rita loves a white man, named Mark. Mark and Rita’s parents are both racists, but Mark decides to tell his mother about their relationship. Mark’s mother gets so mad that she doesn’t want to see him again, if he keeps being with Rita. Mark therefore tells his mother that they have split up, but Rita is wounded by this and agrees to her parents’ suggestion about them finding a man for her to marry. Rita meets a lot of guys, but none of them compares to Mark. One day Rita’s parents show up unexpected to Mark and Rita’s house to tell Rita about a girl, who has run off with a white man and tries to influence Rita to never do the same. Rita finds out that her parents know about her relationship with Mark. The story ends with Rita about to tell her parents about Mark.
