In India, sexual abuse and violence are one of the most common crimes committed. 31,677 rape cases were registered across the country in 2021, that's approximately 86 cases a day of the registered cases. A lot of victims don't report their abuse, because no man wants 'a used car' for a bride as they describe. Women are beaten, compelled into sexual abuse, or worse. Women have been seen as an object, and not a part of Indian society. Besides keeping the household in check and managing the youths, Women are raised until marriage and then sent off to another family.
But why are violence, sexual abuse, and rape such a major part of India's crimes? That answer lies in India's religion, and how women are seen. Women can't have sexual relationships before marriage and are forced to marry a lover with their parents' acceptance. Also as Indian law describes, there is no rape inside a marriage. That simply doesn't exist, because you 'belong' to the husband, therefore, no rapes can take place. Also, the hormones in men's bodies talk for themselves sometimes. When their beliefs lay in 'No sex before marriage, some men like to take matters into their own hands and snatch a random victim to sexually abuse. As a part of covering up the crime, men usually kill the victim, simply so that they can't identify the offender(s). The ones that do survive end in curvier pain and life-damaging traumas, both physically and mentally at the hospital.
