'Sweet Sixteen': analyse af filmens handling

The movie is about a boy named Liam and his miserable life. He and his sister Chantelle grew up in an orphanage because of their criminal parents which both are in jail. Liam has dropped out of school long ago and tries to make a living by selling cheap cigarettes to random people on the street. Liam’s best friend and accomplice is Pinball who is an addict. Liam’s mom has a new boyfriend named Stan. Stan is a drug dealer who tries to sell his “stuff” by smuggling it into Liam’s moms’ prison. To get the drugs into the prison Liam has to have it in his mouth behind his upper lip. However, Liam does not want to give his mother the drugs. Liam is in strong belief that his mother wants to start over in a new house away from her appalling boyfriend and father. When Liam refuses to give his mother the drugs he gets a beating by Stan and gets thrown out of his apartment. Liam goes top his sister’s apartment where he plans to stay until his mother gets out of jail. One day Pinball comes to pick Liam up in a stolen car. Liam was playing outside with Callum his sisters child so he had to take Callum with him. They end up finding a caravan near the sea that seems like a perfect place for Liam and his mother to start over. Pinball and Liam finds out where Stan and Liam’s grandfather stashes their drugs. They take the drugs and tip the police that Stan and Liam’s grandfather have drugs. The boys start to sell the drugs and everything is well until Douglas appears. Douglas has a business of his own and he just wants to know where the boys get their drugs. Liam and Douglas become friends and Liam passes a test which is given to him by Douglas. In the test Liam is supposed to kill a man but the test is only a trick to see if Liam really would do it and Liam passes. Meanwhile Pinball is pushed more and more aside because he is too cocky with Douglas. Liam is about to buy the caravan he dreamed of. However, when he goes to see it again he finds that it is completely burnt down. Liam quickly jumps to the conclusion that it is Stan that has destroyed the caravan.
