The Amish boy Samuel Lapp traveling with his mother Rachel Lapp to Philadelphia for the first time after Rachel’s husband died. In the toilet of the train station sees Samuel 3 men, and one of them is a murder, which shot a men. The police come and investigate what happened in the toilet. A police chef called John Book has the task to clarify the crime. John Book informs Samuel and his mother that the murdered was a police officer.
It doesn’t take very long time, before Samuel’s finger is on the picture of McFee, which is a narcotic and he was arrested many times. Shortly after John Book tells his boss the information, McFee comes after Book and wounds him in a shootout.
Book decides that the best way to avoid detection and stay safe is to blend in with Amish community, which he does working with them on their farms and helping with building a new barn. He obeys their rules and respects them. Rachel Lapp and John Book fall in love with each other. Rachel will not be longer Amish. She wants only to be with Book and live with him.
Finally the corrupt cops Book has exposed are determined to keep their dirty work a secret, and they come looking for Book and Samuel to silence them for good.
