I have chosen to write about “Indian camp” written by Ernest Hemingway. The short story is from 1924.
Nick is a boy. My guess would bee that he is about 10-12 years old. Nick is a boy who is sensitive and afraid. In the beginning of the story we meet a boy who is just like other boys. He is not thinking about life and what life brings. Trough the story we see the change from a little boy too a big boy. Nick experiences the beginning and end of life. He sees a child being born. His father is a doctor and tells him what happens during the birth. Nick sees everything a boy in his age does not want, all the things boys find disgusting. After the birth Nick is relived, but shortly after Nick sees the father of the new born child who has committed suicide. Nick sees the blood and the dead body. After these experiences Nick stops being afraid all the time the only thing he dreads is death. The experiences have made Nick a strong boy.
- Nick’s father is a doctor about 35-40 years old. In the story he tries to make Nick a strong and brave boy by showing him his work as a doctor.
