Polly Miller is a beautiful Amish girl. She lives with her family in Ohio but they have had to move to Texas to make money to pay of their farm in Ohio. Polly’s dad doesn’t understand why she wants to have friends. The only friend she has is Rose Ann. Rosa Ann is an ‘englisch’ girl at her age.
A day Polly and Rose Ann were together after lunch. Rose Ann had brought some dresses Polly tried when her father were sleeping so he didn’t notice. Rosa Ann gave her a green dress and some white shoes. She gave her make-up and brushed her hair. Suddenly Tom showed up. He couldn’t believe that it was Polly.
Tom persuades Polly to meet him at the crossroads. They talked in Tom’s car for a while. They went to a Bar-B-Que grill. Polly didn’t liked the place so they decided to eat the ice-cream in the car. They talked again. Tom wanted to see Polly again. But Polly didn’t know how to do with out her father noticed. Tom dropped her off by the crossroads and she walked home. Tom said that he would leave a note at the signpost every Tuesday.
Some month later Polly met Tom again. Tom would go to Silver Lake. At the Silver Lake Tom put her arm around her shoulders and said he loved her. Then he purposed to her and showed a ring. Polly was shocked. She opened the car door and jumped out but she didn’t know where to go. She saw Tom was following her and she jumped behind a tree. A snake struck her leg. “Tom, help me! Help me!”
