Nelson mandela

Nelson Mandela was born in Transkei South Africa, July 18 1918. His birth name was Rolihlahla. It means; to pull the branch on a tree, but a teacher named Admiral Horatio Nelson, later gave him the name Nelson, because he thought that a black boy would better alone, if the english people in power knew the name and knew how to say it. Nelson Mandela was the youngest member of the Mandela-family, Nelson Mandela has three brothers and nine sisters. He was the first to go to school in his family, he starts to go to school, when he was 7 years old. When he was 16 years old he started at the Clarkbury institute, and learned about the western culture. After many years Mandela started, at the fort hare university where he studied law. When Mandela was living in Johannes burg, he got involved in anti-colonial politics. Joining the ANC, (African national congress) He became a founding member of ANC. In 1948 Mandela and ANC began to implement policy in apartheid, and then Mandela was elected as president in the ANC. Mandela was also working as a lawyer at that time. Mandela and the ANC in many years tried to fight this apartheid. Mandela was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities, but only in non-violent protests. He was always found not guilty and then released. Mandela co-founded an organization, called MK OR THE spear of the nation. This organization used to attack the white government I South Africa. In 1961 Mandela leaded a bombing campaign against the government, 1962 he was convicted for sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government. Mandela served 27 years of prison in many different places, so he was not 27 years in one place. An international campaign helped him and he was released in 1990, Mandela made an autobiography and that led to negotiansions with President De Klerk to abolish apartheid and establish the multiracial elections so both black and white could be elected for president in South Africa. In 1994 Mandela was elected as president in South Africa and he became the first black president in his country. Mandela has got over 250 honors including the Nobel peace prize.
