Dusk over Atlantic Wharf is a short story by Susmita Bhattacharya. It takes place in Cardiff, Wales, at the newly married couple, Lata and Anuj. Anuj has live in Wales for six years, where Lata has only live there for 4 months. Before she married Anuj, she lived with her parents in India. Therefore has a conflict arise, because Lata really misses her family and friends very much. She misses the food, the culture, the landscape and the traditions. She misses everything.
In the story Lata and Anuj decide to go to the cinema in Bay, and watch a movie. Anuj choose a Bollywood movie, a movie which is filmed in India. Lata gets very delighted, because she can feel home again. During the movie she keeps telling Anuj, about the background and landscape. She doesn’t concentrate about the action, only the background. In the end she suddenly discovers that her home isn’t India anymore, it is Cardiff with Anuj.
Characterization of Lata:
Lata is an Indian woman, whose father got her married to Anuj. The special thing about Anuj is that he has live in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, for about six years. And he has the red passport, so he can give Lata a good future. A better life than her parents could give her.
