The short story;”Dusk over Atlantic wharf” takes place in Cardiff, which is a town in Wales, where Lata and Anuj live as immigrants. The main character is Lata. She was raised in India and lived there until she recently moved to Wales to get married to Anuj. They try to make their marriage work best possible. Anuj’s family also comes from India, but he has been living in Wales longer than Lara has. Their marriage is an arranged marriage, which means that it is Lata and Anuj’s families who have planed their wedding and future together as husband and wife, living in Wales. After a short period of time after the wedding, Lata feels uncomfortable and bored. She starts to miss life back in India. Lata does not talk to Anuj regarding her boredom and feelings. Lata suggests that they go out to dinner one night, but that does not happen. They go out to watch a movie together in the cinema. Anuj is the one who chooses the movie, and he ends up choosing a Bollywood film. Even though Lata is pleased by choice of movie, she pays more attention to the background and places where the movie takes place. It reminds her of memories from her life in India.
