Analyse af Louis Sachars 'Holes'

The book is about a boy called Stanley Yelants. He has committed a crime he did not do at school. After he came to Camp Green Lake where he had to dig holes as a punishment. Stanley had no idea that he and other boys at the camp are forced to dig large holes in the dirt every day. The Warden of the camp has an evil plan for the boys, When the boys arrived to Camp Green Lake, Stanley realizes that the boys and Stanley are digging these holes because the Warden is searching for something.

The warden wants, they boys to dug holes because there is a treasure hidden somewhere out in the desert, then the boys can do the dirty job.

2. Besides the boys, who else dug holes at Camp Green Lake?

- When the Warden was a child, she and her grandfather dug many holes. The leader (Warden) did not know that there was a treasure out in the desert, but the grandfather knew all time. After she got older she found out about the treasure and it was true.

3. How does digging holes help Zero and Stanley survive?

- Stanley and zero(Hector Zeroni is his real name), are not really good friends in the start but they are getting closer and closer. One day Stanley is writing a letter to his mother, and he can feel there is somebody there are watching him over his shoulder. It’s Zero, Stanley says that is personally. Zero tells that he can’t not read or write. Zero ask Stanley if he will learn him how to read and write. First Stanley says no, but then Zero suggest if Stanley will learn him to read and write and in return he will dig Stanley’s holes. After a while Stanley and Zero are getting closer friends and in the end they decide to help each other.
