But is that true? Some think that fun is irrelevant. They think that as long as you’re making money, having fun and enjoying what you do does no matter. According to me, it’s quite the contrary. Not to sound cliché, but money isn’t everything it’s cut out to be. I’m not saying you should stop thinking about earning money and making a living, instead, I think that you should find a balance in work life. Find something you love, something you can earn money on, and something you find meaning in. Easier said than done?
Before you find something you’re passionate about and that you find fun, lets define fun, shall we?
Is fun being silly and doing nothing productive? Is fun laughing for 8 work hours straight? In my opinion, absolutely not. Having fun at work could mean that if you find fashion fun, and it’s something you’re passionate about, you choose to work in that field. Or maybe, you find computer games fun, so you decide to create your own. Because of the fact that it is something you’re passionate about, there’s no way your work would ever be boring, right?
There comes a point in life, where you have worked in the same field for years and years, and suddenly, before you know it, it’s not as fun as it used to be. Do you choose to stay in the same field or do you explore other things? I think this is where a lot of people who are hooked on the idea that work should equal fun are put off. That is why fun isn’t necessarily the most important thing in business. You should remember that work can’t always be fun, sometimes it’s also important to be serious and to get the job done, whether you want it or not.
